The eight phases of a Central Ohio remodel

  1. 01 Design & selections

    2–5 weeks

Site measure, scope, layout drawings, and every finish selected. Locking selections here is what keeps the build on schedule later.

  2. 02 Permitting & ordering

    1–4 weeks

Permit submittal to Columbus, Franklin, Fairfield, or Hocking County, and long-lead orders placed — cabinets, windows, and tile ship in 6–12 weeks.

  3. 03 Demolition & protection

    2–5 days

Dust walls, floor protection, tear-out, and disposal. Hidden conditions surface here, which is why we hold a contingency in every schedule.

  4. 04 Framing & structural

    3 days–3 weeks

Wall changes, headers, beams, and subfloor repair. Additions add foundation, framing, and roofing time at this stage.

  5. 05 Rough-ins & inspections

    1–3 weeks

Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC rough-in, then county inspection before anything gets closed up.

  6. 06 Insulation & drywall

    1–2 weeks

Insulation, hang, tape, and three coats of finish with dry time between each. Rushing this is the most visible mistake in a remodel.

  7. 07 Finishes

    2–5 weeks

Tile, cabinets, countertop template and install (10–14 days between), flooring, trim, paint, and fixtures.

  8. 08 Punch list & final inspection

    3–7 days

Walkthrough, touch-ups, final county inspection, and warranty documents handed over.

How to keep your remodel on schedule

  • Finalize every selection before demolition — one undecided tile can idle a crew for a week.
  • Order cabinets, windows, and custom tile at permit submittal, not after framing.
  • Budget a 10–15% time contingency for hidden conditions in homes built before 1980.
  • Group change orders into one decision point instead of drip-feeding them.
  • Confirm the inspection schedule for your jurisdiction early — review times vary across Columbus, Lancaster, and Logan.

Remodel timeline FAQs

How long does a home remodel take?
Most Central Ohio remodels take 6 to 16 weeks of on-site construction, plus 3 to 8 weeks of design, selections, and permitting before crews start. A bathroom runs 3 to 5 weeks on site, a kitchen 6 to 10 weeks, a finished basement 6 to 10 weeks, and a home addition 4 to 7 months.
How long does a kitchen remodel take in Columbus, Ohio?
Plan on 6 to 10 weeks of construction once cabinets are on site. Cabinet lead times of 6 to 12 weeks are the single biggest scheduling factor, so we order them before demolition starts.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A standard hall bath takes 3 to 5 weeks on site. A primary bath with a custom tile shower and layout changes takes 5 to 8 weeks because of added plumbing, electrical, and tile time.
How long do permits take in Central Ohio?
Residential permit review typically takes 1 to 4 weeks depending on the jurisdiction. Franklin County and City of Columbus reviews usually run longer than Fairfield or Hocking County, and additions with structural or zoning review can take 4 to 8 weeks.
What causes remodel delays most often?
Long-lead materials (cabinets, windows, custom tile), change orders made after work begins, and hidden conditions found at demolition such as failing plumbing, knob-and-tube wiring, or undersized framing.
